What follows is one of two spreads to work with the energy of the Magician from  Tarot Wisdom, by Rachael Pollack.
I gave both spreads a try. The first one worked very well for me and it made a lot of sense. Here it comes.

Position 1) What is magic? Empress
Position 2) How does it act in the world? 9 of wands.
Position 3) How do we find it? 10 of cups.
Position 4) How do we use it? 10 of wands.
Position 5) How do we become magicians? Ace of pentacles.

For this exercise I used the Universal deck from Lo Scarabeo.

Empress. Magic is mother nature. Magic is at work in front of us all the time. Creation is magic, both as creative expression and the creation of life itself through pregnancy and birth. It makes perfect sense to me.

9 of wands. Magic is at work in the world through all the experiences that test us, that force us to show what we are made of. Through awareness. The guy in the 9 of wands is very aware of his surroundings. He looks like he is listening intently as well as using his peripheral vision.

10 of cups. We find magic through love, joy, harmony and appreciation of everything, starting with the small things we usually take for granted.

10 of wands. How do we use it? By living life to the fullest. Believing in abundance. Taking on more than we think we can handle and by knowing when to let go what hinder us.

Ace of pentacles. We become magicians by doing. By being creative and active. By being open to opportunities. By being receptive.

It is a great spread. I am impressed.
