A look at June 2017 through the eyes of Tarot

After a cool and very wet month here we are in June.

Death and the Lovers

June is often a month of endings like the Death card.

Major Arcanum 13 represents transition. It invites us to let go of what we have outgrown and embrace new realities and opportunities.

The school year is coming to an end, as well as dance classes, martial arts lessons and so on.

There is this shift going on, like a 10 energy. A time to accomplish and release.

June is actually the 6th month of the year and therefore it is a lot about family, caring, loyalties and commitments. The very essence of the Lovers card.

Think of all the family celebrations and gatherings that often take place in June.

In a few days my family will have a big party to celebrate my mother’s in law 90th birthday.

Tarot cards that could express such a joyous event are:

The Sun and the Worl

The World, celebration and reaching milestones.

The 10 of Pentacles, family, generations, customs and heritage.

The 4 of wands, parties, family reunions.
I will also be spoiling my dog a bit, to celebrate her second birthday. Something well expressed by:

The 3 of cups, fun time with friends and loved ones.
The 9 of pentacles, relaxation at home and with pets.

There will be clapping at my daughter’s dance recital.
Star, a time to shine.
The Sun, taking centre stage.
The 3 of Pentacles, working well with others.

Of course not every day is a celebration.

Being an avid gardener I will be doing a lot of weeding and planting. Which could be expressed by:

The Empress, time spent in Nature.

5 of swords, nasty fight with the weeds.

Ace of pentacles, planting.

7 of Pentacles, assessing.
As for work, hopefully I will be busy doing

Tarot and Numerology readings,
which could be expressed by the High Priestess or Queen of cups.

Tarot parties,
The Sun, The 3 of cups, the 4 of wands.

Reiki sessions,
Well expressed by The Magician as the channel between the Universal energy and the client.

Temperance as healing.

The 6 of pentacles , exchange of energy.

Numerology, Personal month 9.

Hi everyone.

Welcome to Looking at life through Tarot and Numerology. Part 2.

Numerology, Personal month 9.

April 2015 was for me a Personal month 9 in a personal year 5.
Personal months in Numerology are like little mini me of personal years.
They show the challenges and opportunities we will face in each given month.

9 in Numerology stands for the end of a cycle. It is a time to finish our projects, let go of people and situations we have outgrown. It is a time to let go.
The more we release the more time and energy we will have to receive all the new opportunities that will follow in a 1 personal month or year.

A Personal month 9 is not easy because it is hard to let go.

In Tarot the Death card represents those moments when something or someone has reached the end of the road.

The Death card is about inevitable change. It is about going through a door that will let us into a new environment or situation. New customs, new habits.

On Easter Monday, April 6, my loyal friend, my biggest fan, Max (my dog) , suddenly passed away.
He had been at my side for over 13 years.
I am not ashamed to say that for the first few days I had a hard time even breathing.
Weeks have gone by. I will miss him forever, but I have now regained my footing.

Also in April I had to come to terms with my son getting ready to move out.
He turns 20 in May and he wants to spread his wings.
In Tarot that is an 8 of cups moment, when we leave behind something that we once treasured, but that we feel we have outgrown.
Clearly I wish him well and I hope his wings are strong and that he knows how to use them.

Death card

I feel on the edge lately.

I am in a personal year 5, which means instability and dealing with lot’s of changes.

April is a personal month 9. A time to finish things up, let go, move on.

I am a Virgo, an Earth sign. I like stability. I even enjoy rituals and routine.

All this change is making me a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps what bugs me the most is that the majority of this changes are created by people around me. They affect me, but since they are not of my own making, I have no control over them.

I like control, or the illusion of it.
I like the Emperor card. Clear boundaries, clear expectations, clear consequences.

As I was attempting to put my emotions into words, as usual, I reached for a Tarot deck.

I tend to see my world through the cards.
I asked my self which cards reflect what I am going through?

This month I am using the Gilded deck by Ciro Marchetti.

As I started to look at the cards the 8 of cups, the page of swords and the 3 of wands resonated with me.

I could see how the 8 of cups represents the things and the people that are moving out of my life.

The page of sword was clearly me nervously aware of the wind of change and getting ready to react.

The 3 of wands expresses my impatience. The way I see it, if change is coming we may as well get it over with. I am not good at waiting.

Yet not satisfied, I asked Tarot which card I needed to meditate on.

It did not surprise me that I got the Death card.

I see it as a reminder that change is inevitable.

The element of Death is water.
As we know, water likes to flow and merge.
Stagnant water is not healthy, after a while it starts to stink.

Water likes to go around obstacles, but over time water can shape rocks.

Death is inevitable. Sooner or later it comes for everyone.

This card reminds me that something has outgrown its purpose.
It is time to prune the old to make space for the new.

It is time to simplify. Let go of the redundant to concentrate on the essential.
It is time to surrender and accept the new order.

Tarot reminds us of the fragility of life.

Tarot is a mirror for human experiences.
Practically every joy, fear, hope and thought can be expressed through the cards.

I am a strong believer in taking responsibility for our lives.
I often say that the future is not set in stone, that our thoughts, words and actions have repercussions in our present and in our future.

That said, I also believe that we cannot control everything in our lives. It makes sense, since everyone around us also has freedom of choice and their actions also affect the situations they are dealing with.

Some cards more than others reminds us of how fragile we really are.

The Wheel of Fortune, Death, The Tower and The Hanged Man, come to mind.

When I see the Wheel of Fortune
I am reminded that sometimes fate touches our lives. All of us will, at some point in our lives, be in the right place at the right time…or in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Death card
reminds me of the impermanence of life. People and situations valuable and dear to us, will sooner or later exit from our lives, or us from theirs.

The Tower
slaps us hard from time to time. It reminds us that most of our securities are just illusions.

The Hanged Man
is the moment when we understand the three previously mentioned cards and we surrender to those forces that are bigger than us.

The Hanged Man experience can take many forms.
We may just stay still and absorb all that is going on.
We may curl up and pray or hope for the best.
We may raise our arms and surrender.
We may observe, absorb, change our perspective and later on, our direction.

The moment someone wins a huge lottery, or misses the plane that never makes it to the destination, are positive Wheel of Fortune moments.

The day we relocate to another city or another country, or end a relation that no longer nourishes us, we are experiencing the Death card..

When a natural disaster hits and drastically changes the lives of people, we see the Tower at work, as well as the shadow or extreme of the Wheel of Fortune card.

What is the point of all this writing?
A reminder to live in the present, because the future is not a given.

Let’s rephrase our questions to the cards.

What is today’s lesson? How am I affecting the present situation? What can I do to reach my goal?

I am thinking that is better to try to live fully in the present, rather than being overly concerned or dependent on the future.

A spread to work with the Fool’s energy.

Attempting to understand and incorporate the energy of the Fool in day to day life is a wonderful way to begin a new year.

The Fool is pure joy, freedom and spontaneity. It is living fully in the present without fear or self imposed restrictions.

The spread comes from “Tarot Wisdom” by Rachel Pollack. To the best of my understanding it has 7 positions and it requires 7 cards.

1) How have I been a Fool in my life?

2) How has it helped me?

3) How has it hurt me?

4) Where in my life do I need to be more Foolish?

5)Where will the Fool serve me?

6) Where do I find the Fool outside myself?

7) What gift does it bring me?

1)Knight of wands. I have acted like the Fool whenever I have created change courageously. When I have moved forward into new experiences and territories fueled by my dreams and passion. When I have felt guided by the fire inside me and I followed it with quick actions.

2) Death card. The changes I created under the Fool’s influence have helped me by ending stagnant situations. They gave me the courage to let go of jobs, habits and people who were no longer helping me grow. Those changes helped me create a tabula rasa, where I was able to reinvent myself.
3) 10 of wands. Those experiences also hurt me because they required a lot of effort, strength, energy and time. Most of those experiences I took on my own, without a support system and under all the stress that followed it was at times difficult to see ahead and maintain perspective.
4) Where do I need to be more foolish? The Emperor here makes perfect sense to me. I am a Virgo. Order and good planning are tools that have always served me well. Said that, I do understand the trappings of the Emperor’s way, with his need for rules. When we wait for the perfect moment it becomes easy to wait too long, to second guess our selves and to see our own steam evaporate. Also, we can become too attached to our perfect plan and be unable or unwilling to compromise.

5)Where will the Fool serve me? Judgement 20 =2 Air.
In teaching me to surrender some of the structure I lean on. In waking me up to be more present now, at this moment. In becoming more aware of serendipity. I do not believe in coincidences, yet I have yet to learn to grab opportunities when they present themselves. Embracing The Fool more would help me learn to control less and trust more. Hence taking away some of those wands.

6) Where do I find the Fool outside of myself ? Page of pentacles. I believe this page to represent books, as they feed the eternal student in me. I love reading. I have been reading Tarot books for over 25 years and I see myself reading and discovering for the rest of my life. I love learning new concepts and how one thing leads to another. Through Tarot I have become passionate about Numerology, Reiki, Yoga and who knows what will come next?

7) What gift does it bring me? Justice 11= 2 Air. I believe it helps me find the connections between thought and action, deed and consequences and so on. By helping me see connections between people and situations, it will help me become fair and less quick to judge. I think Judgement in position 5 and Justice in position 7 are closely connected. Not only they both represent ways for the Fool’s energy to help me, they are both 2 and they are both air.

Two is about duality and choices.
Air is about thinking and clear communication.

So I believe working with the Fool’s energy can help me wake up to a more spontaneous and open way to relate to others, which would affect the way I communicate and make decisions.

I find this to be a very powerful spread.
