Six of Swords

August 26, 2019 by Anna

Six of Swords from Everyday Witch.

The Six of Swords guides us through the week of August 26 to September 1st 2019.

The number 6 is about harmony, caring, commitment, loyalty and fairness.

Swords is associated with the element of Air, which is about strategic thinking, communication and speed.

In the Six of Swords we see group travel. It is fitting at a time when so many students are leaving home to go to college or university.

Some people will try to squeeze in some last travel before September comes and vacations come to an end.

An other meaning associated with the card is leaving problems behind, or to the very least, taking steps to improve things.

This week will likely bring travel, relocation, the beginning of healing or steps into a new and positive direction.

The king of Swords is the card for the week of Oct. 9 to 14.

October 9, 2018 by Anna

As I look at the king of Swords I see authority.

He looks powerful, serious and he is looking straight at us.

Kings show up when situations reach the culmination stage.

They are about ruling, managing and executing.

The king of swords is about mental deliberation, powerful communication, execution of a plan.

He may express in your life as dealing with people of authority like a lawyer, judge, police officer, doctor.

If you were waiting for a verdict or a decision, you will receive it soon.

If you have been struggling with a challenge for some time, this king is telling you to deal with it now.

Get the facts, listen attentively and make your decision with your head, not your ego.

Listen, observe and finally speak up slowly and clearly.

Less is more. Be selective with your words. Be firm.

Say only what you mean and be ready to back it up.

Father figures in Tarot.

June 13, 2018 by Anna

With father’s day coming up I feel reflecting on father figures in Tarot to be a good idea.

The Emperor, Major Arcanum 4 is the essence of fatherhood.
He represents stability, order and authority. He is the one able to restore order where there is chaos. He sets up clear rules and boundaries. He builds things that last. He enforces the rules, he will protect his family and his kingdom. When the Emperor is on your side you can relax and feel safe.

On a day to day base we can look at the four kings to see fathers in action.

Let’s start with the king of Wands.

He rules the element of fire. He is passionate, creative, active, bold, a force to contend with.

As a father he would motivate you, inspire you, challenge you and drive you a bit crazy.
He is extremely confident. He has big ideas. He is a natural leader, always on the go and surrounded by people. He is fun, makes the most far out dreams seem possible. He is always busy promoting something, motivating others into action and looking for the next idea.
You look up to him, you also fight for his attention and his time. Conversations with him can get heated real fast. He lives so intensely that his proximity can drain you if you are not careful.

The king of Cups.

He rules the element of water. He is caring, calm, artistic, a good listener. He needs to do a job that not only pays his bills, but also feeds his soul. He is romantic, a dreamer and his calm is contagious.
As a dad he will inspire you to play an instrument, paint and appreciate beauty in general. He will be there when you are sad. He will hold a quiet space for you to explore your emotions. He will not offer you solutions, just his patience and quiet support. When you mess up he will hear you out. You will not fear the consequences he will dole out, but you will hate to disappoint him.

The king of Swords.

He is the ruler of air, analytical thinking and communication.
He likes to observe life in a detached , objective way. He sees things as they are. He likes technology and science. He likes rules and order. He aims at perfection. He is all about strategy, precision, always being two steps ahead and moving fast.
As a dad he will teach you the importance of being prepared and always do your best. He likes a clean and quiet house. He wants you to follow his rules. With him you know where you stand. Go to him for facts, knowledge and the right contacts, but when you need soothing for emotional pain go to someone else. When you mess up, be ready to face him with an objective defence for your actions. Don’t waste his time with emotions and motives. His scolding will be mild, but there will be fair consequences. You can count on it.

The king of Pentacles.

He rules the element of earth.
He is reasonable, hard working, practical, methodical. He likes to spend time in nature. He understands the importance of balance. He values intelligence as well as a strong body. He works hard, but he takes time to have fun. He also knows that quality takes time. He values stability and security.

As a dad he will be a good provider. Giving you a safe home and good food on the table will be his number one priority. Family, customs and traditions are important to him and he will pass them on to you. He is not much for adventure and innovation. He will encourage you to play it safe, pursue traditional careers, build a solid family and don’t stray too far from home.
He will try to help you, always. When you mess up, talk to him honestly. Listen when he talks, show him respect and he will come up with a reasonable consequence.

What kind of gifts would you give to these fathers?

For the king of wands, I would suggest anything related to sports, his passions or trendy items.

For the king of cups try books, music related gifts, tickets to museums or clothing.

For the king of swords I would suggest books, board games, video games, new technology.

For the king of pentacles try a good bottle of his favourite drink, treat him to a great dinner, take him to a good show or a great game.

Have you recognised any of these kings? Show them some love and feel free to comment below.

Compassion through the eyes of Tarot.

April 9, 2018 by Anna

What is compassion?

The Collins English Dictionary explains it as :
Feeling of distress and pity for the suffering or misfortune of another.

The Thesaurus gives us :
Charity, clemency, humanity, kindness and mercy.

Although I can understand and respect those definitions I feel something is still missing, so I am going to look at compassion through the eyes of Tarot.

To be compassionate you need to feel.

Cups court cards from Anna K Tarot deck.

Cups, representing the element of water, can teach us a lot about compassion.

Water goes with the flow.
It reminds us to observe, listen, absorb.

The members of the water family (page, knight , queen and King) find their way through life following their hearts and by being aware of feelings and views.

Awareness is a blessing and a curse!

The 5 of pentacles (earth) sometimes well expresses the strong bond that ties together people who have shared the same hardship.

5 and 6 of pentacles from Anna K Tarot deck

The 6 of pentacles expresses compassion in a practical way, by helping out physically or by providing funds.

The Empress is another example of healthy compassion.
She provides the love and nurturing that helps people blossom to their full potential.

The Lovers card offers good intention, love, loyalty, commitment, all extremely important tools to someone in distress.

The Hermit is the guidance available , but he does not do house calls. The person in need must look within first, realize he or she needs help and

go look for it.

Empress, Lovers and Hermit from Anna K Tarot deck.

Temperance, Star and Strength from Anna K Tarot deck.

Temperance offers healing through change, modification, prudence, moderation and compromise.

The Star offers hope. It is the light in the darkness. Without hope there is no healing.

Strength to me is the card that best represents compassion.
As you may know, Strength is Major Arcanum 8 in some decks and 11 in others. Personally I think the 8 energy better suits the card, anyway the image in the Anna K deck is beautiful.

The power of strength comes from awareness.
From understanding our own power as well as our own weakness. Strength recognizes the struggle between thinking and feeling. Between talking and doing. Between theory and practice.

The lady (mind) gently holds the roaring beast (instinctual urges).
The lady and the beast are looking into each other eyes, understanding where each is coming from.
In my humble opinion that is where true compassion originates.

Please feel free to express your thought on compassion.

2018 is a Universal year 2

January 10, 2018 by Anna

Happy new year!

2018 is a Universal year 2.

What does that mean?

As we all know 2017 was a roller coaster for many.

2017 was a Universal year 1 and therefore energetically intense. It was a good year for single focus and purpose, for those that like to march at the beat of their own drum.

The year 1 was about new ideas, starting new ventures, going after our own vision and goals without much care for the opinion or needs of those around us.

The year 1 was about being in the moment, without much care for the past or for the future. The year one was creative, active, decisive and exhausting.

Many of us could not wait to leave 2017 behind.

Here we are in 2018 a Universal year 2. Gone is the energy, the single focus, the speed and the arrogance.

Now we have to make choices, we need to find a balance. It is time to start listening and looking for allies and mutually satisfactory agreements.

Progress takes now a much slower pace.
Arrogance and pushiness don’t work anymore.

Patience and diplomacy are now the way to go.

Time spent observing, listening and reflecting is a good use of our energy.

Knowing how to relate is key. Partnerships romantic and otherwise are blessed.

2018 = 2+0+1+8 = 11 The Justice card.

11= 1+1= 2 The High Priestess

The Justice is air energy, which is about mental agility, objectivity and good ethics. Justice is about restoring balance, by observing actions and consequences and making good , rational decisions that will also affect others.
The High Priestess is water energy. While air is active, water is passive.
Water is about feeling, relating, absorbing.
Water is not confrontational. Water likes to go around the obstacle, it prefers to merge.
Water is about intuition, dreams and inner guidance.
The High Priestess is about secrecy and finding answers within.

All in all, I would say that both Numerology and Tarot point out to a calmer year.
One where struggles will take more time to be resolved, but where results will be more balanced.

2017 was about leadership, good or bad.
2018 is about a better way to relate and diplomatically move forward.

A look at June 2017 through the eyes of Tarot

June 1, 2017 by Anna

After a cool and very wet month here we are in June.

Death and the Lovers

June is often a month of endings like the Death card.

Major Arcanum 13 represents transition. It invites us to let go of what we have outgrown and embrace new realities and opportunities.

The school year is coming to an end, as well as dance classes, martial arts lessons and so on.

There is this shift going on, like a 10 energy. A time to accomplish and release.

June is actually the 6th month of the year and therefore it is a lot about family, caring, loyalties and commitments. The very essence of the Lovers card.

Think of all the family celebrations and gatherings that often take place in June.

In a few days my family will have a big party to celebrate my mother’s in law 90th birthday.

Tarot cards that could express such a joyous event are:

The Sun and the Worl

The World, celebration and reaching milestones.

The 10 of Pentacles, family, generations, customs and heritage.

The 4 of wands, parties, family reunions.
I will also be spoiling my dog a bit, to celebrate her second birthday. Something well expressed by:

The 3 of cups, fun time with friends and loved ones.
The 9 of pentacles, relaxation at home and with pets.

There will be clapping at my daughter’s dance recital.
Star, a time to shine.
The Sun, taking centre stage.
The 3 of Pentacles, working well with others.

Of course not every day is a celebration.

Being an avid gardener I will be doing a lot of weeding and planting. Which could be expressed by:

The Empress, time spent in Nature.

5 of swords, nasty fight with the weeds.

Ace of pentacles, planting.

7 of Pentacles, assessing.
As for work, hopefully I will be busy doing

Tarot and Numerology readings,
which could be expressed by the High Priestess or Queen of cups.

Tarot parties,
The Sun, The 3 of cups, the 4 of wands.

Reiki sessions,
Well expressed by The Magician as the channel between the Universal energy and the client.

Temperance as healing.

The 6 of pentacles , exchange of energy.

By the way, if you are planning to book an appointment with me in the near future, please keep in mind that I will take part of July and August off.
More details will follow.

I will be hosting a Reiki Share on June 11 and a Playing with Tarot on June 25. For more details please visit my Meet Up group Guelph-Tarot-Energy-Healing Group

I wish you all a June full of fun and celebrations big and small.

In Tarot words that would be wishing you lot’s of Sun, 3 of cups and 4 of wands moments.
Have fun!

How to calculate your personal year.

January 4, 2017 by Anna

How to calculate your Personal year

Let me show you how to calculate your personal year.

It is simple.

Add the day and the month of your birth to the year you want.

As an example, say you were born on the 11 of May and you want to find out your personal year for 2017.

11 = 1+1 = 2

May = 5

2017 = 2+0+1+7 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1

2+5+1= 8 Your personal year for 2017 would be 8.

Notice that in Numerology 11 and 22 are called Master Numbers, which means they are very powerful and don’t usually get reduced to a single digit.

In the calculation for your personal year Master Numbers are reduced.

I am in a personal year 7.
What does that mean?

In Tarot terms that would be a Chariot year, or in the Gaian Tarot deck, which I am currently using, the Canoe.

The Chariot from R.W.S. deck and The Canoe from The Gaian Tarot.

Both well express the energy of the number 7.

As you can see the person in both cards is alone.
In a year 7 we crave alone time to think and to do things on our own.

It is usually a year of self discovery, of expansion.
It is a time to go beyond the comfort zone to find out what we are capable of.
Self discipline, courage and a strong will are required to achieve progress.

Now let’s remember that we are all in a Universal year 1. I just wrote about that, if you missed it, here is the link 2017 is a Universal year 1. The year of the Magician.

As I said there, the Universal year is the ocean and the Personal year is your little island in it.

We know that a year 1 is a year of bold, creative , innovative actions.
A year 1 favours those that can think independently, that are willing to try new things and that act fast.

Look at your personal year and see where you are. To know the characteristics of each year check this link Personal year and Universal year number

Being in a Personal year 7 I should be fine, because I am willing to work hard and in new ways to achieve my goals.

Mother’s day and mothers in Tarot.

May 8, 2016 by Anna

Celebrating mother's day with my kids.

Celebrating mother’s day with my kids.

Mother’s day and mothers in Tarot.

First of all Happy Mother’s day to all the moms out there.

I was lucky enough to go out for lunch with both my kids and many relatives.
We went to The Penny Whistle in Guelph. I like it because it has a huge menu and there is something for everyone, including vegetarians like me.

Each month I pick a different Tarot deck to work with for personal use. I always let my clients pick the deck they like most for their readings.

This month I am using the The Sacred Rose Tarot deck by Johanna Gargiulo-Sherman. It is a great deck. Small and easy to hold in my hands. Very colourful. I love that most of the people in this deck have crazy wild flowing hair just like me. I feel like I belong. I find that the Sacred Rose deck gives powerful and more intuitive readings.

If I were to reflect on motherhood through the eyes of Tarot, the Empress of course, would be the first card to come to my mind.
In this deck she is very pregnant. I would say that she could give birth any minute.
With the Empress I think pregnancy, motherhood, mother nature, creation and nurturing.

The four queens, the Empress and the 6 of cups from The Sacred Rose Tarot deck.

The four queens, the Empress and the 6 of cups from The Sacred Rose Tarot deck.

All the queens could be moms.

The queen of pentacles would be the kind of mom that will always have your back. She is the one that shows her love by doing things. She cooks lovely meals, she keeps the home clean and organized. She is creative in the garden, she is hands on. She is resourceful, she loves company and her home is always busy with friends and animals.

The queen of cups is the mom that always knows how you feel. She picks up your vibes loud and clear. She is the mom that will listen to you, feel and empathise with you, but that will let you fight your own battles. She will teach you to love art, dream and trust your feelings.

The queen of swords is reserved with her emotions and she most likely will not be big on hugs
and kisses and baby talk. She will show her love for you by attempting to always be prepared for every phase of motherhood. Reading books after books about pregnancy and child birth, early years and how to deal with teenagers. She will always try to be a step ahead of you.

The queen of wands will hug you and kiss you and yell at you. She will play with you and she will enroll you in all sorts of sports and she will push you. She is very competitive. She will encourage you to always give your best. She is a busy mom and you will rarely be bored with her.

The 6 of cups to me speaks of childhood. That time in your life were you read fairytales, dream day and night and when everything is possible. A simple time when it was easy to know who was the good guy and who was the villain.

As always, thank you for reading and feel free to share your own reflections on mothers.

Personal year 6 and Major Arcanum 6, The Lovers.

January 22, 2016 by Anna

My Personal year for 2016 is 6, which in Tarot corresponds to Major Arcanum 6, The Lovers.

At the beginning of the year I wrote about the Universal year 9.

I explained the difference between Universal and Personal year.

To calculate your personal year number you must add the day and month of your birth, plus the year you are looking at.

In my case that is 15+9+2016 Since in Numerology we need to reduce everything to one digit 15 becomes 6 and 2016 becomes 9, therefore we have 6+9+9= 24 2+4= 6

I will try to explain the Personal year 6 through the eyes of Numerology and Tarot.

6 is a loving and caring number. Harmony is extremely important and the heart tends to lead the way.

A year 6 always follows a year 5, a time of challenges and instability.

The year 6 benefits from all the hard work done in the previous year and it is usually marked by progress.

Lovers from The Gilded Tarot deck, The Sacred Rose Tarot and Anna K Tarot

Lovers from The Gilded Tarot deck, The Sacred Rose Tarot and Anna K Tarot

The Lovers card is about love, loyalty, commitment.

It is about making important decisions. Making choices that reflect our values, our priorities and being committed to them for the long run.

The Lovers want to help, sustain and elevate each other. The Love of the Lovers is pure, strong, reliable and enduring.

The Lovers says yes, even when no would be a much easier answer.
The Lovers is willing to sacrifice, because it is the right thing to do.

A year 6 therefore is usually a year where the focus is on family, friends, commitments.

It is a year where time is spent helping others, sharing, sustaining. It is the year where the promise we made long time ago might come to haunt us.

It is the year where commitments are tested. In health and in sickness, rich or poor..

It is the year when loyalty could be challenged by temptation.
Where doing what is right might not be in our best interest.

The 6 and the Lovers are about harmony in and out.
It is about consciously making our decisions and having the courage to live with the consequences.

Welcome to 2016 which is a Universal year 9.

January 1, 2016 by Anna

Hi everyone and happy new year!

What is a Universal year, from a Numerology perspective?

A Universal year represents the opportunities and the challenges facing all of us, as a group.

A Personal year represents what is coming to you from the outside.

In other words, your personal year is like your little world, which is affected by the Universal year, the big World out there.

2+0+1+6= 9
The Hermit from The Sacred Rose Tarot deck and The Druid Craft TarotIn a Tarot deck the 9th Major Arcana is The Hermit.

I shall try to identify the theme of 2016 through what I know of numbers and of Tarot.

In Numerology life is experienced in 9 years cycles that repeat themselves.

9 is the end of the cycle.
Therefore, it is a time of completion and of letting go. Generally a year 9 is not the best time to start new enterprises. It would be better to use the year to finish what was started, or to make the necessary changes to bring it to the next level.

In a year 9 it is better to proceed with caution and avoid making impulsive decisions.

Listening and reflecting will be more productive than speaking out.

In a year 9 less is more. Quality over quantity. Silence is better than back ground noise.

A year 9 is a time to wonder the big questions of life and to bond with Nature.

The image of the Hermit reminds us of the archetype of the wise old man. The one who has the answers, but he is hard to find and reach. In other words, the only way to gain the wisdom we seek is by setting up on a long and treacherous path we must walk on our own.

The Hermit from The Gaian Tarot and from The Gendron Tarot deck. The Hermit suggests times when we feel alone, not understood or supported.

A time when we feel the need to escape the noise and the pressure surrounding us.

Many stories tell us of someone discontent with his life or his environment, someone who decides to leave his old life behind. The character proceeds to leave  his family, his belongings, his little world, in search for something better. Through the shedding of his belongings, securities and achievements he is exposed to new people, places and experiences. There is not much support available to him and so he has to become resourceful, adaptable, creative, independent, strong and eventually evolve.

The Hermit learns a lot about himself and the big world out there through his experiences. He learns what he is made of, what is truly important. His priorities shift and he becomes a new person.

The hardest part of all is when the new hermit decides to engage again with others. Will he be able to share what he has learned? Will he feel disconnected from society? The successful Hermit is the one that let’s his actions speak for himself. The balanced Hermit is confident enough  that does not need to preach. He simply lives in harmony with his beliefs.

I wonder if 2016 is going to be about how our world will transform and adapt to the changes created by this huge flow of people attempting to find a better place for themselves, one where they fit in.

Looking at life through Tarot and Numerology. Part 1.

May 6, 2015 by Anna

Hi everyone.

So much is going on I could write a book.
I shall try instead to express it all through several posts pondering over numbers, Tarot cards and life.
I will be using the Anna K. Tarot deck.
Let’s begin.

Looking at life through Tarot and Numerology. Part 1.

Dealing with change

Dealing with change. Anna K. Tarot deck.

Dealing with change.

As I have mentioned in other posts I am in a personal year 5.
In Numerology 5 is about change, instability, challenges and opportunities.

In Tarot language the Wheel of Fortune comes to mind as a reminder that the only constant in life is change. Enjoy the sunny day knowing that it will soon rain.

In a year 5 when everything seem to shift, it is important to remember that while we cannot control the events surrounding us, we can try to control how we respond.

2 of wands and 2 of pentacles2 are about choices, duality and diplomacy.

The 2 of wands are those times when we are at a cross road and we do not know which way to go.

The 2 of pentacles reminds us that often we are under pressure to act fast and keep it together as we come up with a plan, or as we make it up along the way.
