Queen of Pentacles

January 20, 2020 by Anna

Queen of Pentacles from Anna K. Tarot

With the Queen of Pentacles guiding us through the week of January 20 to the 26 I expect a productive time ahead.

Now we have the opportunity to put our experience and skills to work.

Our reliability, consistency and good planning pays off.
There could be a raise and or a promotion. We can afford more and splurge a bit.

Good times with family and friends are likely.

The Queen of Pentacles invites us to :

work diligently and efficiently,

stick to what we know, improvise as needed,

slow and steady wins the race,

work well with others, be helpful and generous,

know our worth, avoid selling ourselves short.

She reminds us that skills and steady effort deserve to be paid well and hard work needs to be balanced with a good social life and plenty of good times.

We should be grateful when life is good and share our abundance with others.
Open our hearts and homes, nurture and guide those who could benefit from our experience.

For some, the appearance of this queen could represent a pregnancy or the presence in their lives of a lady with the above mentioned qualities.

Playing with Tarot with a focus on travel and vacations.

June 28, 2016 by Anna

Playing with Tarot with a focus on travel and vacations

Playing with Tarot with a focus on travel and vacations.

As some of you know, I am the host of the Meet Up Guelph Tarot and Energy Healing Group and I host Playing with Tarot meetings once a month.

In those meetings Tarot enthusiasts get together to ask questions, offer suggestions and read the cards.

It is a collaborative effort aimed at deepening our knowledge of Tarot while having fun.

In my opinion, new Tarot students often make learning harder than it has to be.
I certainly did. It is not all about memorization, it is also about paying attention and opening to the process.

Over thinking can block the intuitive process. I find thinking aloud helps.

One important step in learning Tarot is in becoming familiar with the cards. Playing with them is a great way to do that.

With that in mind I suggest a simple fun exercise.

I write this as we approach the end of June. Travel and vacations are on the mind of many.

I suggest you pick your deck and flip through the cards. Look for images that make you think of travel or leisure time.

Jot down just a few words for each. Do not over think it. Have fun with it.

Don’t look at my list until you have done your own.
Did you find any similarities?
Do you have very different interpretations than mine?
Did you have eureka ideas for different cards?

Share it with me. I would love to know. Please do not forget to write the name of the deck you are using.

I am using the Universal Tarot deck.

10 of pentacles
Spending holidays with family and relatives.
Visiting museums or cities rich of history.

3 of cups
Socializing, dancing, vacationing with friends. Travelling to attend celebrations like weddings and bachelorette’s parties. Week ends away with friends.

9 of cups

Sun.
Travel to places you have not seen before. A vacation in a warm place. Horse riding tours. A school trip. Taking time to travel after graduation and before starting college or university.

10 of cups
Vacations spent relaxing at home. Having house guests during the holidays. Family vacations or to places kids oriented.

5 of pentacles.
Unpleasant travel as in the case of people fleeing their homeland. Unpleasant time away from home due to illness, injury, unexpected expenses or just not fitting in.

9 of pentacles
Relaxing at home or in the country side. Time spent in nature. Gardening. Taking time for ourselves.

Wheel of fortune

Unexpected, unplanned travel. A lucky unexpected invitation. Winning a free vacation.

Knight of pentacles

Well planned travel by car, train or bus.

Indecision, multiple options, ending staying put. Preparing for a journey.

Telling stories using Tarot cards. Part 2.

February 22, 2016 by Anna

I hope you enjoyed my previous post.

If you have not read it, you can find it here Telling stories using Tarot cards. Part 1.

I am trying to teach those of you who are learning Tarot how to recognize the energy of the cards in everyday living.

In Telling Stories using Tarot cards, I write about my life and then select some cards to tell the same story.

In the past couple of months I have had some small health issues.

First, I suddenly developed a pain in my left ankle that quickly got worse, ending up limiting my mobility. The strange thing was that I had not fallen, dropped anything on it. In other words I did not know why I was in pain.
It took me over a couple of months to identify the problem and take the necessary actions, but I am much better now and on my way back to an active lifestyle.

As soon as my ankle got better I came down with a very nasty cold, which is not over yet.
Just as I was fighting the cold I started to experience an increase of calls from new potential clients looking to book Reiki sessions.
If you are familiar with energy, you know that you do not want to go in people’s energy field when you are contagious. Needless to say I had to turn clients down. Hopefully I will work with them as soon as I am better.

I am going now to quickly select the cards to tell the story.
See if they make sense to you. We could use other cards, but these resonated with me.
Again I am using the Legacy of the Divine Tarot deck by Ciro Marchetti.

Telling stories using Tarot cards. Part 2

4 of swords. That is me feet up on the couch going nowhere.

Hermit. I finally decide to seek answers and figure out the source of the pain and why I am not getting better.

Queen of pentacles. She is the lovely specialist that explained my arch problem to me in a way that I could understand. She was also very approachable and kind. She generously suggested many practical and cheap strategies to solve my issues.

The Ace of swords is the clear picture and strategy I was offered.

The 6 of swords is me slowly healing and applying the suggestions given to me. I am not fully recovered yet, but I am heading in the right direction.

Now let’s look at the second set of cards.

Telling stories using Tarot cards. Part 2.

4 of swords again. The cold sucks the vitality out of me.
Page of swords. I receive calls and messages.
6 of pentacles. The news are about exchange of Energy in the form of Reiki sessions.
Notice how fittingly the scale of the 6 of coins stands between the messages (page) and the 10 of wands, me feeling overwhelmed.
The 7 of wands is me taking the high ground. I am not well. It would not be good for me or my clients to be in very close proximity through a Reiki session.
The lady in the card well shows me denying access to clients and to germs.
The Hanged Man is me asking my clients to wait for their appointments, to give me a chance to heal first.

I hope you enjoyed the process. Feel free to tell me if you would have used different cards and why.

Playing with Tarot.

May 8, 2014 by Anna

three_cupsWhat is Playing with Tarot?

An opportunity to come together with other people who love Tarot.

Why?

To have fun, share what you know, ask questions, offer answers, share your experience with Tarot ( the good and the bad).  Learning Tarot is not easy and it is often a lonely pursuit, but it does not have to be that way.  Spending time with people who share your passion for Tarot will help you grow faster as a reader, it will keep you motivated and avoid burn out.

Playing with Tarot are meetings where you can show off your new Tarot deck, or perhaps view one you are considering buying. It is a time where you can suggest a new Tarot book you just read and loved, or ask others what they think of a Tarot book you are curious about. Here is where you can discuss a card you are having a hard time understanding. It is a place where you can try new Tarot spreads side by side with other Tarot readers.  See where you differ in interpretations and explore why.

Playing with Tarot are not Tarot classes. The meetings do not follow a lesson plan. Here we learn by doing and from each other. I, as well as other readers in Guelph, teach. Let me know if you want me to teach you. I will put you in my students waiting list and contact you next time I offer my classes.

How did I come up with the idea?

After having been contacted several times by people who wanted my help learning Tarot without committing to my Tarot classes. I do not mind helping, but I believe in healthy boundaries and guidelines.

Please do not contact me through my custom form unless you want to book an appointment.

Check the blog section of my web site. Under Pondering you will find lots of my reflections on Tarot. My most recent posts are also on my face book page. If the topic of your question has not been already answered in one of my posts, please ask me on my face book page or at one of the meetings.

Last but not least, I host The Guelph Tarot and Energy Healing Group through Meet Up. You can join for free and meet lots of other people with similar interests. Once a month I host Playing with Tarot meetings. If you join the group  you will be notified any time a meeting is scheduled.

Playing with Tarot meetings are also a way for me to keep in touch with my former Tarot students and offer them practical support.

The benefits of journaling.

June 10, 2013 by Anna

I have always enjoyed writing, and I have always loved reading.
I don’t remember when I started to write a diary. I know that I was around 12 or 13 years old and that I called my diary Evaristo.

As I grew, my way of writing naturally changed. In the beginning, each day I wrote a summary of the 24 hours that had just gone by.
Later on I wrote about my emotions. I filtered the day through my heart and how I felt about what had transpired. As I experienced life, I began to dissect facts and emotions through my so called rational mind.

As the years went by, I started to put in writing my questions and my answers to every day life . I began to list the books I read and sometime the impression they had on me.

I have always been and avid dreamer. As I often say, I don’t just dream, I watch movies after movies. Some are frightening, some are confusing, others are hilarious or action packed. Some feel like tutorial on things I have been studying during the day. Some dreams are forgotten a few seconds after I open my eyes, while other stay with me for years. I often write about my dreams in my journal. The funny thing is that sometimes when I read about them years later, what first appeared as a very wild dream, has now a fairly clear and straight forward message.

Something else I journal about is Tarot.
I do believe that pulling a few cards each day and putting my thoughts about them in writing is a wonderful practice. One, I suggest to anyone who wants to learn about Tarot.
I have learned a lot this way. Let me explain the process a bit more.

In the morning I ask my guardian angel and spirit guides to guide me through the day. I ask a few questions and I select a few cards.
My questions are not always the same.

Lately I have been asking these questions.

Where is my focus going to be today?

What is going on with my work?

What is going on in my home?

What unexpected news or events will I be dealing with today?
What is the advice for me?

As I look at the cards that have come up in answer to each question, I look at them individually and as a group. I look at the numbers, at the elements, at the pictures. What do they have in common both pictorially, energetically or as meaning?

I then write it all down. The following day I go back to it and I reflect on the events of that day. I look at how accurate I was. If what I wrote is what later transpired, I write it down. If the energy of the card was expressed in a different way that I predicted, but that is still consistent with the card, I write that down. Once in a while I can see no connection between the cards and the events. When that happens I write a big question mark beside them and I proceed to write what actually went on that day.

I have learned many things through this practice.

Someday I can be extremely accurate. Other days I express the energy of the cards well, but I miss the form in which the energy will come about.
Other times there is no connection between the day I asked about and the cards. Yet, the message will be perfect for a few days later and I have not had the opportunity to do another reading in the meanwhile.

Also, the cards can at times answer each question, while others they will use all the cards to answer one of the questions. In other words, sometime the card in the work position will be just about work, while others it may be about what is going on in other areas of the reading. Often the cards will express in ways that are consistent with their key words. The cards can also express in a way that is not by the book, but it is consistently accurate for you.

Let me give you a few examples.

The other day I got a reading that had the 2 of cups, the lovers, the ace of pentacles, the sun and the queen of swords.
Those cards could have well been indicating a fast growing relationship. Plans being made and expressed in concrete ways and a need to communicate clearly and objectively.
What actually happened  was,  I helped my young daughter set up her face book page. We discussed rules and ethics, practicalities and we bonded.

The 8 of cups often stands for times when we leave behind something we once treasured, but have now outgrown.
Since not all days are profound, the cards have also very mundane expressions. The 8 of cups often comes up for me, when my kids are going away for a sleep over, or my husband will stay away overnight on a job.

I have had the 10 of swords indicate acupuncture overload.

As you can see, the use of a journal can be beneficial in many ways and in many areas of our lives.

Feel free to add your comments and share your own experience.

Tarot tips for beginners.

January 30, 2010 by Anna

I started studying Tarot in 1987. My quest for knowledge has had many ups and downs through the years. I have gone through times of intense growth followed by long breaks, and then intense progress again. That was me, your path may be totally different and that would be fine too.
I have only recently understood this important lesson. We all have different ways of learning and doing and that is fine. Had I known then, what I know now, I would have avoided so much frustration. With this in mind I am going to share with you a few tips.

There are a lot of decks out there, some of them are stunningly beautiful.

To begin I would personally use the Rider Waite deck. It is not the most beautiful, but it is the easier one to use while learning.

There are pictures in every card. The symbols are clear. They are not intimidating and if you carefully look at the cards, you will understand the basic message.

I started with the Marseille deck. The minor arcana have no pictures, just 7 swords or 5 disks and so on. It is no surprise that for over a decade I only used the Major Arcana. A whole new world opened up to me when I switched to the R.W. S. deck and instead of 5 disks I had a homeless couple walking down a snowy street.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!

Also, most Tarot books refer to the Rider Waite deck in their teaching.

I have read a ton of Tarot books over the years. I own most of them. Public libraries unfortunately do not share my passion for Tarot.

A great book to start with is ” Learning the Tarot” by Joan Bunning. My copy is falling to pieces, but I am still holding to it.

You can even try the free Tarot on line course by the same author and save money.

In my opinion, the best way to learn  Tarot is to truly become familiar with the deck. Don’t just memorize the meaning of the cards. Become familiar with the deck. Look at the cards! Every time you do, you will discover something new, a detail will grab your attention. When you study/ read the meaning of a card, always keep the card handy and look at it.

When you start practicing, come up with your own interpretation first, then compare it to what the book you are reading says.

This is extremely important, or you may, like me, end up dependent on books for years. The longer you use the books as crutches in your interpretation, the harder it becomes to trust your own intuition.

Daily readings are a great way to experience the cards and learn more about them.

Some pick one card a day. Others pick up several.

I believe the number of cards chosen is less important than the reflection over them. When you pick up your cards in the morning it helps to have an intention. You may ask which energy is going to be prevalent during the day.

Or, what is the best way to handle the situations you will encounter that day. Once you have posed your question, draw your card and write it down. Look at it and think about what the card may try to tell you. Write it down.

Leave the card out, if at all possible in a spot where your eyes will wonder often.

At the end of the day, or the following morning, go back to what you wrote. See how much was correct and what you missed.

If you do not see the correlation between the card and the events of the day, I suggest you write down what happened. It may turn out useful the next time you draw the same card.

As you evolve on your path, and you look back to your journal, you may see the connection between the card and the events of the day as clear as light. The journal is a great tool, but only if you write down your thoughts and the events that followed. At least this has been my experience with it.

Finally, the Internet can help you a lot. There are so many great Tarot readers, writers, teachers out there. So many of them have web sites or blogs full of information. Many of them post incredibly informative articles. Not only they are all free, but people write comments, questions and the authors answer them.

Some of the people who post comments are also great experts in the field. The Tarot community all over the world is very friendly. If you have the passion and the dedication now days you can progress on your Tarot path faster and cheaper than I did.

I wish you all the best on your quest for knowledge,  please don’t forget to have fun along the way.

Anna
