The Lovers

October 21, 2019 by Anna

The Lovers form Spell Caster’s Tarot.

The Lovers Major Arcanum 6, guides us through the week of October 21 to 27 2019.

We have the number 6, which is about love, harmony, caring and awareness.

We are in the element of Air, which is about objectivity, communication and identity.

In the card, we see a couple holding hands and looking into each other’s eyes.
Clearly they are connecting and there is a bond between them.

This week relationships of all kinds will play an important role in your life.

You may find yourself reflecting objectively on your important ties. These could be romantic, family members, friends or business partners.

You may be pondering over what you have in common and how you differ.

Do you share the same values?
How long have you been there for each other?
How strong is your bond now?
Have you made promises to each other or are you about to?
Are you going to keep them?
How loyal are you?

On the other hand, you may be trying to figure out what your are passionate about in life and commit to a path that reflects your values.

The Lovers invites you to be loving and kind and to recognize that love and compassion are powerful forces.

We all need to feel loved and understood, therefore we must live in a way that is consistent with building strong connections with people. Who will than be at our side through the ups and downs, just as we will be for them.

The love of the 6 in combination with the objectivity and sense of identity of the element of Air is compelling.
As such, it invites us to be strong, caring and courageously walk the talk.

Honour your word by taking actions that support your principles.

The Queen of Pentacles reversed is the card for the week of Oct. 22 to the 28.

October 22, 2018 by Anna

With the Queen of Pentacles reversed representing the week, you can expect to have to work a bit harder to get things done.

Things are not bad, but they are likely not as stable or organized as usual.

Is the Queen of Pentacles reversed representing you or someone around you?
Let’s try to figure it out together.

Are you normally calm, organized and extremely practical?

Are you usually reliable, resourceful and always ready to help out?

Do you love to be surrounded by people and animals and be the one who makes everything run smoothly?

If you recognize yourself as this queen, be aware that this week you may want or need to take it easy.

Perhaps you are tired or not feeling well and you may want to put yourself first for a change.

If that is the case, be prepared to say no this week. Enforce boundaries and limits.

Lot’s of people count and lean on you and they may not be too happy to have to rearrange their plans this week.

Be compassionate, but firm. Don’t let your inner well run dry.

Take care of yourself this week and before you know it, you will be back to run the show.

On the other hand, if you know you are not the Queen of Pentacles, figure out who she is and do your best not to be a burden to her.

Do yourself what she usually does for you. Try not to be resentful for the inconvenience, rather be grateful to have her in your life.

Don’t take her for granted, Develop contingency plans. Be more resourceful.

Wheel and two of fire.

August 28, 2015 by Anna

wheel and two of fire
Hi everyone.

Today we look at the Wheel of Fortune and the 2 of fire from the Gaian Tarot deck by Joanna Powell Colbert.

On Sunday my daughter and I went to pick up a puppy. We named her Misty.

Yesterday I pulled two cards to see what Tarot had to say about it.

Position 1 indicates the gift that Misty is bringing me.

Position 2 is the lesson that Misty is teaching me.

The gift is The Wheel, Major Arcana 10, earth.

Earth is practical, real. 10 reduces to 1 and is about endings and new beginnings.

Misty is offering me a fresh start. The opportunity to let go of the sadness and to embrace joy once again.

The Wheel is about cycles.

Some of you know that at the beginning of April my beloved dog Max passed away. I got him as a puppy. I watched him grow into a handsome, lovable, affectionate dog. As the years passed we witnessed each other’s joys, sorrows and transformation. I was with him as he passed.
He was my shadow and my loyal friend for twelve and a half years. His death left a huge void in my life.
Max and I went full circle. I protected him when he was small and vulnerable. We walked together strong and full of energy. We were there for each other when we were weak.

I took my time to mourn him, to process the experience and to recharge and build new routines.

During the Summer my daughter stalked every dog that crossed her path here and in Europe. It was clear she was ready to love again.
I was not so sure. I mean, I knew eventually I wanted another dog. I knew we could provide a good home. Rationally I understood that the pain of the loss was worth all the joy we had had, yet…I was hesitant.

Now I look at this beautiful independent puppy and my hearth opens.
Misty is a Sheltie, as Max was. Shetland Sheepdogs are smart, brave, playful and beautiful. They get along with everyone, they are lovers, not haters.
Max and Misty are different colours and he was a male and she is a female.

Misty is the Wheel in action. What goes down eventually must go up.

She is the breath of fresh air. She is the puppy in a home that had grown quiet.
She brings change. We have to be present and aware of our surroundings. We have a little one that does not know what danger looks like. She has not learned to speak our language yet. She thinks our adult cat would make a great play mate if she could just get close enough. Her curiosity and enthusiasm are contagious.

What lesson is Misty teaching me? 2 of fire (wands).

Fire is about joy, creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm, passion, daring, living fully.

2 are about choices, taking time to make a decision/ decide the next step.

In this deck a very hot, fit couple embraces while looking into each other’s eyes.
The chemistry, the attraction is clear, but their eyes are wide open. They are checking each other out. There is a strong attraction, they are clearly connecting, but they each hold wands that are on fire. It is dark around them. They each bring their own source of light.
What is Misty teaching me?
To fully engage in life again. To live life with energy , passion and curiosity. To be brave , take some risks. She is also teaching me to take one step at the time.
Misty wants to be with me because I give her food and shelter. I give her affection and joy through play. I offer her protection and boundaries. Yet, I am new to her and she is new to me. We have yet to earn each other’s trust and grow our bond. We are just learning to approach each other.

The Tarot card reader. Part two.

August 24, 2014 by Anna

ancestral-path foolHere I will discuss the different kinds of Tarot readers and the style of readings they may use.

1) Divination.

2) Guidance.

3) A combination of divination and guidance.

1) The clients that want a pure divination reading are looking for information into the future. They want to know what will happen .

They may ask about career choices. Is their job secure? They may ask about love. Will their relationship last? Will they find their true love? Will their ex come back? They may ask about a law suit. Will they win? You get the idea.

2) The clients that want a guidance only reading are not interested in the future as much as in working with the present.

They want to understand: What is going on? Where are they coming from? How are they sabotaging them selves? What can they do to help the situation?

3) The clients that want a combination of both are open to see what the Tarot has to say. As in:

How are they emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually? Where were their priorities in the past, now and what will they be concerned with in the next 6 to 9 months?

They may want to look into areas of their lives to get a more objective view of the situation. They may look at the facts, their perspective, what roles other play in the situation. Where their personal strengths and weaknesses are. In other words, those clients want to peek into the near future as well as examine their present and their options.

I believe there is room and purpose for each style of Tarot reading. Each has dangers, benefits and limits.

The same reader can be perceived as great by a client and bad by another. It is a matter of expectations.

What kind of reading does the client seek? What kind of reading does the reader provide? Are they a good fit?

Client 1 tend to believe in destiny, that their future is set and there is not much they can do about it.

They just want to know. They do not take responsibility for it.

Their reader must share their belief and be accurate all the time. Client 1 would be very unhappy with a Guidance only kind of reading.

Client 2 does not believe in destiny.

They want better understanding of themselves and their situations. They want readings that will give them knowledge, understanding and the power to affect the situation the best way they can.

They are on a journey to understand themselves and life at a deeper level.

Client 2 would not be happy with a Divination only kind of reading.

I believe there are different kinds of readers that provide this kind of counsel.

Psychologists that do not read cards, but use their images to help their patients  talk and examine situations.

Knowledgeable Tarot readers that use the images of the cards to guide their clients.

They pose deep questions to be probed by the clients, who will look for answers in the cards. The reader helps the client explore by posing the right questions at the right time.

The reader provides more questions than answers, but those questions are very helpful to the client that is ready to do the work.

The danger, in my opinion is when the reader has not done the work to learn the meaning of the cards. She is not a trained psychologist, but will interpret the images for the client often using her personal beliefs to guide her in the situation.

Two people who have no knowledge of the cards, or the meanings of the symbols depicted in them, can look at the same card and get two very different stories. Why? Because their interpretation comes unfiltered from their emotions at that moment and their life experience.

I have a problem with this kind of untrained reader. I worry she may project her fears, her personal beliefs and indoctrination into the reading. The client may simply end up with the personal advice of the reader masked by the “authority” of the cards.

Client 3.  Are open to explore different views of the situation they are experiencing. They are curious. They have questions. They are ready to assume responsibility for their lives. They engage in the reading. They listen to what is being said with an open mind. In the end they make their own decisions.

Their kind of reader is open to read in both a prognostic kind of way, as well as a guidance kind of reading.

This kind of reader does not believe that the future is set in stone.

She looks at life like a road with many twists and turns. Where our choices affect our present and therefore our future. Where we can control a lot, but not all, as we are not islands and everyone around us with their own actions affects our reality.

In a way we control our choices and the way we react to events. This kind of reader will try to help you make the most with the situation at hand.

She will give suggestions, but leave the decisions up to you. She will tell you what the Tarot advise even if that is not what she would personally suggest, but she recognizes the client is there for the wisdom of Tarot, not her personal beliefs.

To sum it up. I am a good fit for client 3. I respect honest readers in all 3 groups.

I wish all clients to be aware of what they want, that way they can find the reader that matches their expectations and needs.

Thanks for reading this.  Feel free to comment on my face book page.

The role of intuition in a Tarot reading.

June 6, 2014 by Anna

The moonI am a Tarot reader and  I make no claim of special abilities. In other words, I rely on my hard gained knowledge of the cards to get my interpretation of a reading.

None the less, I have always admitted that each card has a lot of meanings.

The question and the surrounding cards help me decide which meaning applies to a particular reading.

A couple of weeks ago I was reflecting over how much the use of a deck influence a reading. In other words, the same card in the same combination, may be read differently by me depending on the deck I am using.

Why? I believe the artwork, the symbols, influence my interpretation.

What I know about the card does not change, but the symbols present in the card may lead me to go with one meaning over another.

I believe that is one of the many ways that intuition plays a role in a reading.

I  reflected on how sometimes I notice something in a card that I had not noticed earlier. Let me give you some examples. The river and waterfall in the Empress card. It has always been there, but I only started to notice it lately. Now I ask my-self how I could have missed it before.

Another one is the two of cups. I had never noticed how the man is reaching for the hand of the lady.

In the 7 of swords. Have you noticed how dangerously the sneaky guy is holding the swords by the blades? For years I had not!

Let’s take this a step farther.

Lately I have been wondering why the same symbols in a card will at time suggest something to me and at other times will not.

The 4 of cups.

In a reading I  noticed the 3 cups lined up in front of the man. After a moment, it occurred to me that 3 people were involved in the situation. The client confirmed it.

In another reading I noticed the two coins being juggled in the air in the 2 of Pentacles card. It told me the guy had two kids.

Why is it that a symbol will speak loudly one time and stay silent in another occasion? Again, I believe intuition is at work.

What do you think?

By the way, in all the examples mentioned above I was using the RWS deck.

The Fool card is from the Ancestral Path deck.

Three cards spread for January 2012. 4 of swords,9 of cups and page of swords.

January 7, 2012 by Anna

Today I decided to take a peek into the first month of 2012.
I went small and used only three cards.

My Question:

“What does January 2012 has in store for me?

Position 2   Position 3   Position 1

Position 1
Main gift 4 of Swords (A)

Position 2
Main challenge 9 of cups (W)

Position 3
Advice or best course of action. Page of swords (A)

The first thought to come to my mind is “May I return the gift?”

I am using the lovely Anna K Tarot deck.

The 4 of Swords
shows two women in a dark bedroom. Through the window we can see snow. The younger woman in bed is clearly sick and distressed. The older lady sits besides her to provide her with any comfort she can. Two swords are behind the head of the sick lady, one is to her right and one barely visible is at the feet of the bed.

This is obviously a dark, sad card. What kind of gift can it represent?

Will I be grateful to have someone at my side in my time of need?
Or
I will be thankful to be able to be there for a loved one when he or she will need me most?

9 of Cups
A jubilant young couple is shown dancing while a crowd of happy, loving people cheer them on.
This is a happy scene, but the card is positioned in the main challenge for the month. It also follows the sad 4 of swords as a gift.
Perhaps it will be very hard for me to be truly happy and  celebrate an important occasion while experiencing sadness at the same time.
Page of Swords
A young person prepares to do battle with some kind of scarecrow armed with a sword and a shield.

I could interpret this card in two different ways.

A) Practice makes perfect. Rehearse my response will help me face the obstacle better when the time will come.

B) Being aggressive and negative all the time is a waste of energy.

How do I sum up this reading?

Perhaps January will bring me joy and sadness at the same time.

Living in the moment may be hard, but the best thing to do. Face the sadness and be there for whoever may need me. Truly be happy and grateful for joy when it makes an appearance.

Being happy is not a betrayal to whoever I am sad for. Life is a wheel constantly turning. Celebrating happiness is even more important when we are aware of how fleeting it can be.

(A) = air, (W) = water, (F) = fire, (E)  = earth.

Great Exercise with the Major Arcana.Turning Point.

March 9, 2011 by Anna

I am a lucky woman. I have recently bought four Tarot books and found them all fascinating. I am going back and forth between two of them. I plan to write reviews as soon as I am done with them. They are both hands on with lots of interesting exercises.

The one I am going to write about is called “Turning Point exercise 1”. It is on page 49 of “Psychic Tarot” by Mary Antenucci with Melanie Howard.

I tried the exercise this morning and I found it very powerful.

……………………………………………………………………………………………..

HOW TO DO IT.

Use only the Major Arcana.

Think back to 15 memorable moments in your life. Experiences or decisions that helped you become who you are now.

Write them down, possibly in chronological order.

Spread all the Major Arcana in front of you.

Choose one card to identify each moment.

You can select the same card as many time as necessary.

When you are finished, look at the cards and see if you notice any pattern.

……………………………………………………………………………………………..

I am in my late forties and so it was easy to recall 15 turning moments in my life. If anything, I had to be selective.

To respect my own privacy I will not go into details. Let’s just say that I started with a card to represent the kind of family I grew up with, followed by high and low points in my life. I addressed important decisions I made, as well as experiences that life threw at me and with which I dealt the best way I could at the time.

……………………………………………………………………………………………..

HOW THE PROCESS WORKED FOR ME.

As I thought back, cards came to mind. For some events the choice of card was obvious to me, for other not so much. For a few of those memories I had to look at the cards in front of me for inspiration, the cards that answered my call were true surprises. Other times I had a couple of candidates in mind. To narrow the choice, I listed all the reason why each card was the best to express the feelings and the energy of the time. Soon the clear winner would stand out.

I am proud to say that I was able to select a single card for 14 of the special turning points of my life. For one, I had to select two card and I make no apologies for it. It turns out to be one of those moments that starts one way and ends in another, just like a TV episode that has to be continued.

When all was said and done, I found the exercise extremely valuable. It showed me how the events were in someway connected. I could also see the ebb and flow of the energy in my life. How a very structured, responsible phase of my life had to be followed by a crazy, rebellious one and so on.

……………………………………………………………………………………………..

The author of the book suggests to look at each card as a teacher. What were you learning in each pivotal time of your life? I was amazed by all that I learned about each card that way. I had so many Eureka moments. Some came simply by thought process, others were totally visual.

The Moon card has always been a bit of a challenge for me. It turns out I associate it deeply with a very difficult experience in my life. One that I do not normally associate as a meaning of The Moon. Yet, reflecting on the experience. Remembering the feelings, I was able to identify without hesitations all the conflicting emotions and forces at work at the time with the images in the card.

I recommend this exercise to everyone. Personally, I will follow it with the BIT method to delve deeper into some of those pivotal times. Great book. I can hardly wait to see what comes next.

BIT exercise. Rudy.

January 30, 2011 by Anna

Hello.

I am busy reading a fascinating book called “The Back in Time Tarot Book” by Janet Boyer.

I love it because it provides a fresh look at Tarot.

Essentially she suggests to look at experiences from the past or even fairy tales and put them into a story using Tarot cards.

You can use a few cards or you can use many. You can select them by meaning and associations or by the images depicted on the cards.

The method is supposed to help you develop a stronger connection with the cards and with your intuition and who could not benefit from that?

For one of the exercises Mrs Boyer suggests the following.

“Think of a surprise event where a person or animal surmounted an incredible challenge.”

For this story I have used a total of 12 cards. They are all from the RWS deck.

Knight of wands/ Chariot / Tower.

Rudy was a young, bold, strong and curious cat.

One evening, a few minutes after letting her out, I heard the sound of a car hitting the brakes.

When I got out, the car was gone. Rudy was hiding, but she could not walk straight and she had no control of her bowels.

9 of swords / Death

What followed was pure anguish. Death was a strong possibility. Even if she lived, her spine may have been broken.

4 of swords / king of swords / 5 of pentacles.

Rudy survived. She had to rest for  weeks to regain strength, before she could have the necessary surgery (male vet). What followed was a long period of rest, limited movement, weakness and financial strain for us to pay the vet.

Strength / 6 of swords / Temperance / 9 of cups.

Rudy was at the time a young and vibrant cat. It took a lot of adjustment on her part, but eventually she started to get stronger. She healed as much as possible and she went on to have a long happy life, just as we had wished and hoped.

Different decks, different interpretations?

December 6, 2009 by Anna

4 of Pentacles RWSAt present time I own seven Tarot decks. The three I use regularly are the Radiant RWS, the Gilded, and the Sacred Rose. While using them I could not help but notice that my interpretation of the cards change somewhat depending on the deck I use.

Why is that?

I am well aware that I am not the first reader to notice this. There are after all books about comparative Tarot. None the less my curiosity is engaged now.
I understand the symbols portrayed in the cards are responsible for our shift in perception, and subsequent interpretation. I believe this is the reason why some decks speak to me and others do not.

As I look at the two cards in front of me, the 4 of Pentacles from the RWS, and the same card but from the Sacred Rose deck, I wonder…How much does my cards interpretation change from deck to deck? How much stays the same?

After all a four is a four, meaning foundations, stability and attainment. Yet the picture has a strong influence on me.

The RWS shows a well dressed men sitting comfortably with his back to a city. He hugs a pentacle in a way that shields his heart.

One Pentacle stands on top of his crown, and two are under his feet. The man wears red shoes.

I know that several books explain this card as greed and materialistic. I am sure those meaning can apply in the right contest.

When I look at this card I see a man with a peaceful expression. He seems in control and in no rush. To me he is someone who has worked hard for those Pentacles. He is proud of them and protective. He wants to make sure his money goes as far as it can.

The harsher meanings listed above, are in my opinion the extremes of the card.

When I look at the 4 of Pentacles in the Sacred Rose deck I am even less inclined to see the darker meanings.

Here a young person kneels or perhaps stands on top of four Pentacles. He smiles with his hands on his hips in a bold stance. He is on top of the World. I see success, achievement, satisfaction.

I welcome your comments.
